Wat is het verschil tussen een bureau de pente en een secrétaire à abattant?

Een bureau de pente is een laag meubel met een vast of licht neerklapbaar schuin blad op vier poten. Een secrétaire à abattant is hoger, staat vaak op een onderkast en heeft een klep die horizontaal openklapt als schrijfvlak. De bureau de pente is doorgaans compacter en ouder van oorsprong.

Hoe dateert u een antieke bureau de pente?

Let op de pootvorm (gebogen onder Louis XV, getapert onder Louis XVI), de gebruikte houtsoorten, de bronzen garnituren en de verbindingstechnieken. Een ébéniste-stempel met jurande-poinçon wijst op Parijse vervaardiging vóór 1791. Provinciale stukken werden zelden gestempeld, maar kunnen even authentiek zijn.

Wat kost een periode bureau de pente?

Een provinciaal exemplaar in noten of eik kost doorgaans tussen de 400 en 1.500 euro. Een gestempeld stuk in mahonie of palissander met originele vergulde bronzen garnituren kan 3.000 tot 8.000 euro of meer bereiken, afhankelijk van kwaliteit, staat en herkomst.

Hoe onderhoudt u een antieke bureau de pente?

Stof regelmatig af met een zachte, droge doek. Voed het hout één à twee keer per jaar met natuurlijke bijenwas of een geschikte olie. Vermijd direct zonlicht en grote vochtschommelingen, die fineer en verbindingen kunnen beschadigen. Forceer nooit originele sloten of scharnieren.

Kan een bureau de pente zonder stempel toch authentiek zijn?

Zeker. De meeste provinciale bureau de pente zijn nooit gestempeld, omdat ébénistes buiten Parijs niet tot de jurande behoorden. Authenticiteit wordt dan beoordeeld op constructie, houtsoorten, proporties en stilistische samenhang — bij voorkeur bevestigd door een gespecialiseerde antiquair.
