Pupil of Bonnat to the School of Fine Arts in Paris, Henri Pailler is actually the student Armand Guillaumin. More modest and less ambitious than his comrades Friesz, Marquet and Dufy met at the workshop Bonnat, he prefers classical impressionism of Guillaumin master of Crozant in Creuse it accompanies. Still very young Henri Pailler, aware of the privilege of attending Guillaumin receives his lessons as a treasure. By cons to ensure daily income, he taught drawing in Poitiers or he quickly succeeded in teaching a hobby and painting trades. Throughout his life he will seek recognition or laurels for his landscapes that change at slow seasons. Henri Pailler nevertheless managed, despite his follower position to assert his own personality.
His most frequent subjects are views of Crozant and surrounding Poitiers, until his appointment as professor of drawing at Roubaix. Then appear the northern views of France, and during his vacation, south views. Henri Pailler always retain a preference for Crozant and Creuse. Henri Pailler began in the Salon des Independants in 1903 with 7 landscapes, and in 1904 with 7 others.
